BYD has submitted official certification documents for a significantly improved version of its BYD Seal 05 DM plug-in hybrid vehicle in China, showing off a redesigned exterior design in line with the brand’s latest designs, as well as a larger battery option to increase the all-electric driving range with a capacity of 26.6 kWh.

The updated version of the Seal05DM includes notable design changes that echo the design language previously launched in the BYD Sealion05EV, a compact electric SUV that entered the Chinese market in March 2025 with prices starting at 117,800 yuan (about 16,240 US dollars) and a range of up to 520 kilometers with CLTC technology.
The new Seal05DM features an improved front fascia with a full-width LED light bar and a revised bumper design, in addition to semi-hidden door handles on both sides of the body, while the rear includes a revised taillight design, updated rear bumper decorations, and a redesigned rear spoiler. These exterior updates add character to the new plug-in hybrid, bringing it closer to the design of the Sealion 05 EV.
According to the credentials, the updated Seal 05 DM is 4,620 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,630 mm high, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase. Compared with the Sealion05EV electric car, which is 4,520 mm long and has a 2,720 mm wheelbase, the new hybrid’s length and longer wheelbase reflect the redesigned chassis and platform differences between the two models.
