
The Supreme Judicial Council, headed by Counselor Asem Al-Ghayesh, President of the Court of Cassation and President of the Council, commissioned the Public Prosecution to collect and present all the facts published on social media sites related to the death of Judge Samir Badr Abdel Salam, and including crimes that require investigation, in preparation for taking appropriate legal measures regarding them.
A statement issued by the Supreme Judicial Council – at the conclusion of its emergency session held today – stated that the Public Prosecutor, Counselor Mohamed Shawqi, issued a decision banning publication of the incident and anything related to it.
The Supreme Judicial Council stated that it informed the Public Prosecutor, during the session, of all aspects of the investigation regarding the death of Judge Samir Badr Abdel Salam and its circumstances, offering its sincere condolences to the family of the deceased judge, and praying to God to inspire them with patience and solace.
The Council added: “While the Public Prosecution was conducting its ongoing investigations in complete secrecy in accordance with the laws, it coincided with some writings on social media sites regarding the facts under investigation, including what was attributed to specific persons and unknown others.”
The statement continued: “The Supreme Judicial Council emphasizes that judges adhere to judicial values and traditions and the provisions of the law, as well as the provisions included in the applicable code of judicial conduct, which requires accountability for those who violate those provisions.”
The Supreme Judicial Council confirmed that it assigned the Public Prosecution to collect and present all incidents published on social media sites that include crimes or violations of the code of conduct, in preparation for taking appropriate legal measures regarding them.
The Supreme Judicial Council concluded its statement by saying: “The Supreme Judicial Council, which is responsible for the affairs of judges and everything related to them, keeps in mind everything related to the death of our colleague, may God have mercy on him, and it spares no effort in taking care of his family from afar, and reaffirms the necessity of judges to adhere to everything necessary to preserve their prestige and to distance themselves from everything that harms them or opens the door for criticism against them… May God protect Egypt.”
