A joint committee from the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Qalyubia, the Supply Investigations, and the National Food Safety Authority launched a massive campaign in Obour City to control the markets and ensure the safety of the supply of meat, poultry and fish. This came within the framework of the preparations of the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Qalyubia Governorate to welcome the holy month of Ramadan.
Meat inspection
The campaign came in implementation of the directives of Dr. Engineer Hossam Abdel Fattah, Governor of Qalyubia, to intensify supervision of markets to preserve the health and safety of citizens. It was headed by Dr. Hani Shams El-Din, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Veterinary Medicine, the General Administration of Supply Investigations, the National Food Safety Authority, and the Department of Slaughterhouses and Meat Inspection, headed by Dr. Ayman Hisham El-Shaarawy.
The campaign resulted in the seizure of 2.5 tons of minced poultry and luncheon meat unfit for human consumption, and 3 tons of meat cuts that violated standard specifications, with a total of 5.5 tons seized.
Samples were taken for examination and the necessary legal measures were taken, and reports were prepared in preparation for presenting them to the investigating authorities to take a decision, with an emphasis on the continuation of intensive monitoring campaigns throughout the month of Ramadan to ensure the safety of food displayed in the markets.
