Minister of Communication Zouhair Bouamama said during statements at a press conference that Algeria has been subjected for years to systematic campaigns to steal its heritage and attack the creativity of its people in various fields of art and culture, noting that these practices have even reached the point of attempting to hijack football tournaments, citing what the Algerian national team was exposed to in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Bouamama added: The Algerian government will continue to support the national team with everything it has, and will continue to encourage it and follow up on its preparations for the most important tournaments, most notably the 2026 World Cup, next summer.

In response to a question about the Algerian government’s interference in sports and football affairs following the refereeing errors suffered by the Algerian national team in the match against Nigeria, the Algerian Minister of Communications said: This tournament is supposed to be held within the framework of an honest and fair competition, contrary to what we have recently observed of despicable practices that harmed the continent of Africa and the tournament itself.
