Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially submitted to President Isaac Herzog a request for a pardon from him, in a 14-page document.

According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Herzog announced that the request had been transferred to the Pardon Department in the Ministry of Justice, indicating that he would study it responsibly and seriously.

She said that this development is considered an earthquake, as it comes 5 and a half years after the start of Netanyahu’s trial.

The request was submitted to the Legal Department of the Presidency through his lawyer, Amit Haddad, and the pardon request includes 14 pages in addition to the annexes and a copy of the indictment.

A statement issued by Israel explained that the request was transferred, in accordance with the procedures, to the Pardon Department in the Ministry of Justice, which will also collect relevant legal opinions from various parties within the Ministry, and then send them to the Legal Adviser to the Presidency and her team to prepare an additional opinion for the President.

The statement stressed that the pardon request is considered exceptional and has important repercussions, indicating that Herzog will study it responsibly and seriously after receiving all legal opinions.

The request includes two main documents, a detailed letter signed by his lawyer, Amit Haddad, and a letter signed by Netanyahu himself.
