
Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that developing and modernizing the nuclear triad system; It represents a strategic priority for his country during the next stage, stressing that maintaining the balance of international deterrence; It is “a basic guarantee to prevent any large-scale conflict.”
Putin’s statements came during an expanded meeting with the leaders of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Moscow, where he explained that his country is continuing to implement programs to modernize intercontinental ballistic missiles, enhance the capabilities of strategic nuclear submarines, in addition to developing long-range bombers.
Russian nuclear triad
The Russian nuclear triad depends on three main components, which together form the strategic deterrence system:
– Intercontinental ballistic missiles (land-launched)
– Ballistic missiles launched from nuclear submarines
– Strategic bombers capable of carrying nuclear warheads
The Russian President pointed out that diversifying launch platforms; It aims to ensure readiness in various scenarios, stressing that “any threat to national security will be met with an appropriate response that guarantees the protection of the Russian state.”
He added that Moscow is also focusing on introducing modern technologies into command and control systems. This enhances the speed of response and the accuracy of coordination between the branches of the armed forces, pointing out that the modernization process is not limited to nuclear capabilities only; Rather, it includes conventional forces and air and space defense systems.
