An Egyptian man assaulted me policeman A local man using a knife, on the evening of Monday, January 5, before he was subdued by being shot in the leg by a colleague of the policeman.
The accident occurred at approximately 21:00 on Via Cascina Barocco 22, in the western suburb of the capital, Lombardy. The suspect, a 24-year-old homeless Egyptian man with a criminal record, was taken to Niguarda Hospital in critical but not life-threatening condition and then arrested on charges of attempted murder. The police intervention came after a report from residents of the building about an aggressive and disturbing man, according to the Today newspaper.
When police entered the apartment, the suspect was found in an apparent “agitated” state carrying a knife, La Repubblica newspaper reported.
According to the policemen’s statements, they initially tried to calm him down through dialogue, but he suddenly attacked one of them, which led to a violent clash during which the policeman suffered stab wounds in the chest and left shoulder blade.
The intervention of a fellow policeman to repel the attack contributed to preventing the stab wounds from penetrating the uniform, as the damage was limited to tearing the outer fabric of the protective vest. As the suspect’s aggressive behavior continued, the policeman shot him in the leg to restrain him. He was then disarmed and was given first aid by the medical staff.
