The Manial Palace Museum highlighted one of its most amazing archaeological collections, a rare gold coin from the Ottoman era, inscribed with the name of Sultan Muhammad bin Murad Khan, and dated to the year 1003 AH, in a unique model that reflects the precision of Islamic calligraphy and the strength of political symbolism in that historical era.
Manial Palace Museum announces the display of a rare gold piece bearing the name of Sultan Muhammad bin Murad Khan
The coin bears on one side a distinctive inscription in Thuluth script that includes the name of the Sultan coupled with the phrase “Glory be to his victory,” a traditional expression that was used to confirm the ruler’s status and prestige. As for the other side, it includes the phrase “brilliant, the owner of glory and victory on land and sea,” which is a formula that reflects the power, influence, and sovereignty that the Ottoman Empire enjoyed during his rule.
This coin is considered a prominent example of the skill of the Ottoman mint, as its design combines material, artistic and historical value, as well as being an authentic document documenting an aspect of the monetary and political system in the late sixteenth century AD.
The display of this piece comes as part of the museum’s ongoing efforts to highlight its rare treasures and introduce the public to various aspects of Islamic civilization, especially since the museum itself is considered one of the most important historical palaces established by Prince Muhammad Ali Tawfiq, and includes an exceptional collection of artistic and historical collectibles that document important stages of Egyptian and Islamic history.
Through these initiatives, the museum continues its cultural and educational role in spreading awareness of the value of heritage, and enhancing the public’s connection to Egypt’s rich history and cultural diversity.
