American media reports revealed leaked internal messages that reflect a state of frustration and confusion among a number of management agents Immigration and US Customs (ICE), in light of continued security tensions in Minneapolis following two deadly shooting incidents over the past few days.

According to what RadarOnline published, citing private correspondence, some agents admitted that the situation in the city had become uncontrollable, considering that the time had come to withdraw, as they put it.

Confessions of loss of control

Investigative journalist Ken Klippenstein, via the Substack platform, quoted an immigration department agent as saying that what is happening represents a no-win situation for the elements deployed on the ground, adding that immigration enforcement efforts in the state of Minnesota have reached a dead end.

Another client indicated that the administration lost the battle in Minneapolis, in light of the escalation of protests and increasing security pressures.

The leaked letters showed sharp criticism of the recruitment policies within the Immigration Department, as some agents expressed their dissatisfaction with the low admission standards, considering that a number of the newly appointed members lacked experience and competence.

According to testimony, one of the new agents described his colleagues as “suspicious,” citing unusual behavior during surveillance operations, which heightened tensions within the field teams.

The messages reported that Immigration Department agents are living in a state of increasing anxiety, with a general feeling of fear of being targeted, in light of the escalation of popular anger and protests against their presence.

One of the officers indicated that security briefings had become largely focused on possible retaliation scenarios against law enforcement members, which created a state of panic and paranoia within some units.

Tasks outside of immigration enforcement

According to the sources, a number of agents complained that their tasks had shifted from prosecuting immigration cases to confronting demonstrators and trying to contain unrest in the streets, which caused severe pressure on enforcement and deportation teams.

One of the officers confirmed that this reality led to the personnel being exhausted on the ground and psychologically, as they were burdened with responsibilities that were not directly related to their basic tasks.

Controversy over the shooting incident

Some of the messages touched on the killing of nurse Alex Pretty, who was shot dead on January 24, as a number of clients expressed questions about the way to deal with the incident.

One of the participants in the conversations claimed that the victim was subjected to heavy fire despite being unarmed, considering that the official version does not match the video clips circulating.

One of them added: What happens cannot always be justified simply because those involved belong to the law enforcement apparatus, indicating the need to review field performance transparently.
