Within the framework of its pioneering role in monitoring and analyzing the image of women in the media, and under the patronage of Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the Council, the Media Observatory, headed by Dr. Suzan Al-Qalini, Council Member and Rapporteur of the Media Committee of the National Council for Women, continues its launch for the eleventh consecutive year since its founding in 2016, to continue its journey as one of the most important national initiatives concerned with monitoring and analyzing media discourse during the month of Ramadan.

The Media Observatory for Monitoring Ramadan Drama at the National Council for Women began its work this year, with two members of the Media Committee, Dr. Reham Yahya and Dr. Asmaa Abdel Shafi, organizing a series of intensive training workshops for students of media colleges at participating universities, with the aim of qualifying them on methods of monitoring and scientific analysis of media content, including drama serials, advertisements, television programs, and press materials, in addition to analyzing content published on social media sites.

This year, the Observatory is witnessing a wide and unprecedented participation, as it includes 33 media faculties from 33 Egyptian universities, with the participation of about 250 male and female students, who were trained during the first two workshops on the mechanisms of quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the criteria for evaluating the image of women and issues related to them in various media outlets.

The second included completing practical training, and dividing the participants into specialized work groups, in preparation for the launch of the actual monitoring process tomorrow, at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, within a systematic and organized framework of work that continues daily throughout the holy month.

This great momentum in university participation confirms the success of the Media Observatory in establishing a culture of scientific monitoring and objective evaluation of media content, and providing a distinguished training opportunity for media students, which contributes to preparing a conscious generation capable of reading and analyzing media messages and their societal impacts, especially with regard to the image of women and their issues.
The Observatory continues to fulfill its mission for the eleventh year, strengthening its position as a national platform that combines scientific research, practical training, and community service, in a step that reflects the interest of the National Council for Women in supporting responsible media discourse and establishing a positive and balanced image of women in the Egyptian media.
