Khaled Abdullah, a consultant, confirmed Minister of Labour For Occupational Safety, the incident of the collapse of the wooden scaffold in the city of Benha, which resulted in the injury of 8 workers, reflects the continuing problem of weak adherence to safety procedures within some construction sites, explaining that the construction sector is witnessing a significant expansion across the Republic, which requires strengthening oversight and inspection of work sites.
Advisor to the Minister of Labor: Lack of awareness and neglect of safety procedures are behind the scaffolding accident in Benha
Abdullah indicated, during a television intervention, that the Ministry of Labor is following up on the condition of the injured, moment by moment, saying: We pray for a speedy recovery for all the injured, and a number of them have already been discharged from the hospital, while others are waiting to be discharged in the coming hours. One of them also underwent surgery and was discharged in stable condition.

The minister’s advisor revealed that the inspection campaigns carried out by the ministry have been continuing since October 15 on various facilities, to ensure their compliance with safety standards, but some areas have not yet been completely covered, stressing that work is underway to reach them.
He explained that accidents related to scaffolding are repeated as a result of the use of worn-out materials and the absence of professional supervision, pointing out that the workers sat on a scaffold that was not designated for this purpose and without sufficient supports, which is considered extremely dangerous behavior, adding: If there had been a safety official on site, he would have prevented these practices.
Abdullah stressed the importance of having a safety official at every work site, and the need for workers to commit to wearing personal protective equipment, while applying strict supervision, stressing that the ministry’s goal is to raise the level of awareness and commitment to ensure the protection of workers and preserve their lives.
