Businesswoman Azza Fahmy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azza Fahmy Jewelry Company, recounted her first trip to learn jewelry making in Khan Al-Khalili: “I went to the master Ramadan and he taught me because I have no money, I don’t know, I always have solutions, nothing can stop me,” noting her determination to learn despite limited resources.
In an interview with media personality Lamis Al-Hadidi, presenter of the “Billion Journey” program, on Al-Nahar channel, Fahmy added that she spent two years in continuous learning with various jewelers, where she moved between different workshops to learn the basics of welding, refrigeration, and jewelry making step by step.
She continued: “I learned, and then I went out and made a few pieces and that was it, and then I found a need to do something a little higher, so I went to another workshop.”
She expressed her deep appreciation for the craftsmen who later became her close friends: “For so long, between 15 and 20 years, these craftsmen and teachers remained my friends, my beloved.”
Regarding her being a woman in a world of goldsmiths dominated by men in the 1960s, Azza Fahmy confirmed that she was not thinking about breaking the rules, but rather was following her intuition and passion: “I did not think about breaking the rules or any need… I act as my heart leads me.”
