He faces Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin NetanyahuRepeated American criticism due to its repeated aggression against Syria and before that Lebanon.

Two senior American officials expressed their concern that the repeated Israeli raids inside Syria threaten to destabilize the country and undermine hopes of reaching a security agreement between Tel Aviv and Damascus, according to what was reported by the American website Axios.

American pressure on Netanyahu over Syria

One of the officials said that Washington is seeking to persuade Netanyahu to stop this matter because if it continues, he will self-destruct.

He added that Netanyahu’s continuation of his current policy towards Syria means that he will miss a huge diplomatic opportunity and turn the new Syrian government into an enemy.

One of the officials pointed out that Syria is not like Lebanon, adding: Syria does not want problems with Israel. This is not Lebanon. But Netanyahu sees ghosts everywhere.

The two American officials told Axios that Netanyahu’s actions partially undermined work on a security agreement between Syria and Israel, which Washington hopes will be the first step towards Damascus joining the Abraham Accords at a later date, according to Axios.

American anger towards Netanyahu escalated after an Israeli ground operation in Beit Jinn in the Damascus countryside last Friday, which led to the killing of about 13 Syrian civilians in air strikes after Israeli soldiers were surrounded and 6 of them were injured. Israel claimed that it was carried out for the purpose of arresting members of the Islamic Group organization active in Lebanon.
