Google has developed a new technology to verify the authenticity of images And videosWas it created by artificial intelligence or real? Google’s Gemini chatbot, which runs on artificial intelligence, has gained the ability to determine whether a video is real or created using artificial intelligence, through SynthID technology.

According to what was published on the Phone Arena website, users can easily report content created by artificial intelligence, as Gemini AI has gained the ability to verify whether an image was produced using artificial intelligence, and the chatbot can now detect videos created by artificial intelligence, and using the artificial intelligence video detection feature in the Gemini application is very easy.

How does SynthID help Gemini detect AI-generated content?

Users can use generative artificial intelligence to produce images, videos, and texts. To ensure easy distinction between content generated by artificial intelligence and human content, Google uses SynthID technology, which places a watermark on all content created using Google’s artificial intelligence tools. This digital watermark is invisible to the human eye, but Google’s SynthID detection tool can easily detect it.

When asked if the uploaded image or video is AI-generated, Gemini uses the SynthID detector to check for SynthID watermarks, and if any are found, the chatbot replies that AI has been detected in the uploaded content. Otherwise, you will receive a response like No SynthID detected, indicating that the content does not contain any traces of AI.

The SynthID watermark is currently only included in content generated or modified by Google’s AI tools, which is why when you upload content created using any other AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini cannot determine whether it was created or modified using AI. To ensure that AI systems can identify content created using any AI tool, companies are working to establish the Content Provenance and Authenticity Alliance (C2PA) as a global standard. As part of this effort, most AI-generated content will contain data C2PA-specific definition.
