Dr. Nasser El-Gizawi, President of Benha University, announced that the university has advanced in its regional ranking among the five best universities in Egypt and Africa, according to the Indonesian classification of environmentally friendly green universities (UI GreenMetric) for the year 2025.

The university ranked third locally and in Africa, and was ranked among the top 500 universities globally, ranking 263 out of 1,745 universities around the world from 95 countries, an increase of 268 universities and 10 countries that participated this year in the rankings.

Al-Jizawi pointed out that the Greenmetric classification is one of the most important international classifications that measures the extent of universities’ commitment to developing environmentally friendly infrastructure, and works to rank universities according to their efforts to achieve sustainable development and the extent of their commitment to clean environment standards.

Dr. Jihan Abdel Hadi, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research, added that the university maintained its lead locally in the energy and climate change standard, and also came in first place locally in the water standard, explaining that the classification includes six main standards related to sustainable development, which are: infrastructure and smart buildings, energy and climate change, waste recycling, water, transportation, and educational and research preparations.

It is noteworthy that 38 Egyptian universities, both public and private, appeared in the current version of the green university classification, an increase of two universities compared to last year.
