She declared YouTube platforma subsidiary of Alphabet, has raised the prices of its subscriptions in America for the first time in three years, with the increases being implemented with the next billing cycle.
YouTube raises subscription prices to $4
According to CNN Economics, under the new amendments, the price of the individual YouTube Premium plan will rise to $15.99 per month instead of $13.99, while the family plan will rise by $4 to reach $26.99 per month.
The company also explained that the low-cost YouTube Lite service will be priced at $8.99 per month, and it allows watching most videos without ads, but it does not include the benefits of YouTube Music Premium, and it still displays ads on short clips and music content.
In the same context, the price of the separate YouTube Music Premium subscription increased by $1 to $11.99 per month.
This is the first increase since the launch of YouTube Premium in 2018, which came as a renaming of the YouTube Red service that first appeared in 2015.
This step comes within a broader wave of rising prices for streaming services, as platforms such as Spotify, along with Netflix and Disney Plus, preceded them in raising subscription fees, as companies seek to confront rising production and operating costs.
A YouTube spokesman confirmed that this increase aims to preserve the features that users prefer, such as viewing without ads, the ability to play in the background, in addition to a huge library that includes more than 300 million music clips through YouTube Music.
The platform indicated that it has exceeded 125 million global subscribers to its paid services, compared to about 100 million subscribers in 2024.
