The death toll from floods and landslides on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia has risen to 631 people, while one million people have been displaced, according to a tally issued by the National Disaster Management Agency on Tuesday.
The agency added that 472 people are still missing, while 2,600 others were injured in three governorates on the island, located west of the archipelago.
The agency reported that more than 3.3 million people were affected by the floods, and one million people were evacuated and moved to temporary shelters.
The scale of the disaster has become clearer since monsoon rains hit large parts of Sumatra last week, causing rivers to overflow, landslides and entire areas to submerge.
Earlier, reports indicated that North Sumatra Province was the most affected, with 283 deaths confirmed.
Officials also announced 165 deaths in West Sumatra, and 156 deaths in Aceh Province, on the northern tip of Sumatra.
The floods and landslides that struck Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Sri Lanka during the past week led to the death of about 1,200 people and the loss of hundreds.
