The Egyptian Society of Film Writers and Critics, headed by film critic Prince Abaza, announced that the “Egyptian Youth Films” competition will be named after Dr. Ghada Gebara within the activities of the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries, which is organized by the association.

Dr. Ghada Jbara graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema, Department of Montage, and due to her excellence, she was appointed as a teaching assistant at the institute, then a professor of montage and head of the department, before assuming the deanship of the Higher Institute of Cinema, then the position of Vice President of the Academy of Arts, and President of the Academy.

“Film Writers and Critics” names Ghada Jabbara for a competition at the Alexandria Film Festival

Ghada Jbara was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Syndicate of Cinematic Professions since 2015, then the first representative of the Syndicate. Since 2023, she has also been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Society of Film Writers and Critics.

This selection comes in appreciation of Ghada Jabbara’s role in graduating large numbers of film students over the course of more than a quarter of a century, and her supervision of many doctoral and master’s theses at the academy’s institutes, as well as at other colleges and universities inside and outside Egypt, in addition to her role in serving cinematic work through her activity in the Syndicate of Cinematic Professions, and her continuous support for cinematic culture.

The forty-second session of the Alexandria Film Festival for Mediterranean Countries is scheduled to be held from September 26 to 30, with the opening and closing ceremonies being held at the Library of Alexandria.
