Yesterday, Thursday, the British capital, London, witnessed a massive protest organized by many Orthodox Jews in front of the Israeli embassy, in a scene that confused Israeli diplomacy and brought back to the forefront the issue of forced conscription inside Israel.
According to British media, the protesters raised banners and strong slogans rejecting the recruitment of religious people into the Israeli army, stressing that the government is practicing what they described as brainwashing to force them to join a military institution that does not recognize their religious beliefs or their conservative lifestyle.
The demonstrators said that their true affiliation is to religion and its teachings only, and not to the Zionist project or the Israeli government, noting that forcing them into military service is an attack on their identity and their right to practice their religious rituals.
The protest received widespread media attention, as observers considered it a clear message of the worsening dispute within the Jewish community itself, and that Israeli policies no longer pass without resistance, even within the Jewish community in Europe.
