A smart technology capable of changing its color in a variety of ways after the press of a digital pen came to the fore, and after more than 3 decades, this fantasy is turning into a practical reality inside the corridors of the Consumer Electronics Show CES 2026, where iPolish revealed smart adhesive acrylic nails capable of changing their color using a short electrical charge.
A new electronic nail technology is at the top of the trend
According to the iPolish Fashion platform, iPolish nails rely on a small device that is charged and connected to a smartphone. After choosing the color through the application, the tip of the nail is placed inside the device and a short electrical charge passes through it, changing its color within about 5 seconds for one nail. Although the company did not reveal precise technical details about the mechanism of action, it indicates that it relies on advanced electrochemical reactions that allow this rapid transformation.
Each nail can display up to 400 colors, with the ability to switch between them at any time. This feature gives users the freedom to coordinate their nails with clothes or occasions without the need to repeatedly visit beauty salons or commit to one color palette.
Ipolish electronic nail technology price
The company offers a basic set at a price of 95 US dollars, which includes two sets of nails with two different designs: Ballerina, which is relatively shorter, and Squoval, which is slightly longer. The company confirms that the shape of the nails cannot be changed or cut, because this may lead to damage to the metal pieces embedded inside them, which makes choosing the appropriate design a crucial step before purchasing.
If a nail is lost or broken, replacements can be purchased for $6.50 apiece, and factoring in the usual cost of repainting nails weekly, the idea of changing the color on demand seems like an economical and attractive solution in the medium term.
Ipolish release date
Despite the enthusiasm for the new technology, the quality and durability of iPolish nails remain under evaluation until the start of official shipping, currently scheduled for June 2026. The Consumer Electronics Show CES 2026 will be held in Las Vegas from January 4 to 9, with the participation of major international companies, and the Engadget team is present to cover the latest announcements and try out new products, from Samsung and LG to NVIDIA and others, with live follow-up of all exhibition activities throughout the week.
