The new Boeing 747-8 presidential plane, registered with the number SU-EGY, arrived at Cairo International Airport the day before yesterday, after a transfer flight from Hamburg, Germany, where it underwent final preparations before being delivered, in a step that reflects Egypt’s strengthening of its capabilities in the field of official air transport, as announced by international media specialized in the field of aviation and space science.
Egypt receives the new Boeing presidential plane
The aircraft features two General Electric GEnx quad-engines, which provide fuel efficiency and the ability to fly a distance of more than 14,000 kilometers without the need to refuel, which makes it suitable for intercontinental flights.
The manufacturer intended to prepare the emergency vehicle to meet the requirements of official transportation with a luxurious cabin that includes meeting rooms, secure communication suites, and defensive measures to ensure the safety of passengers. The plane can also accommodate about 400 passengers in commercial settings, with a focus on the comfort of executives and their ability to work during the flight.
The plane was originally manufactured for the German company Lufthansa in 2015, before the company abandoned it for reasons related to restructuring its fleet, to be stored later and resold. Egypt took advantage of this opportunity to buy the plane at an estimated value of about $500 million, and it underwent extensive modifications in Hamburg to become a presidential plane, including final tests conducted in May 2025 before official delivery, according to international media.
This new model enhances the Egyptian presidential transport fleet alongside Airbus A340 aircraft and other assets, providing additional flexibility and quick response to presidential travel requirements.
