A phone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, and Ms. Kaya Kallas, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, on Monday, April 13, as part of ongoing consultations to discuss ways to reduce military escalation in the region.

Egyptian efforts to reduce escalation in the region

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed in its statement that Minister Abdel-Ati briefed the European official on the tireless efforts made by Egypt aimed at calming the situation and reducing the escalation in coordination with regional partners.

The two officials exchanged estimates regarding the current regional situation after the US-Iranian negotiations were held in Islamabad. In this context, the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of concerted regional and international efforts, including the European Union, to advance the diplomatic path and political solutions.

The two sides agreed on the need to continue coordination and consultation within the framework of the close relations and strategic partnership existing between Egypt and the European Union, and to join efforts aimed at reducing the escalation in the region.
