This action came after governments and regulatory bodies from Europe to Asia condemned sexual content on the application, and some of them opened investigations into it, against the backdrop of Grok creating pornographic images of real girls.
xAI, the startup behind Grok, said on Thursday it was restricting the ability to create and edit images to paid subscribers, in an attempt to fix loopholes that allowed the production of sexual content.
Minister of Communications and Digitalization Meutia Havid said in a statement that the government believes that practicing sexual deepfake without consent is a serious violation of human rights and the dignity and security of citizens in the digital space. She added that the ministry summoned X platform officials to discuss the matter.
Musk said on the X platform that anyone who uses Grok to create illegal content will face the same penalties as if he published the content himself.
