Today, Monday, Dr. El-Sayed El-Badawi Shehata, former head of the Wafd Party, officially submitted his candidacy papers for the presidential elections. Wafd PartyTo the committee supervising the elections at the party’s headquarters, as part of the procedures for opening nominations for the upcoming party elections held on January 30th.
The process of submitting nomination papers took place in accordance with the controls and regulations governing the electoral process, on the third day of receiving applications to run for the presidency of the delegation, which began from Saturday, January 3, until five in the evening on Thursday, January 8, under the supervision of the committee supervising the elections for the leadership of the Wafd Party, headed by Representative Counselor Tariq Abdel Aziz, Undersecretary of the Legislative Committee in the Senate.
It is worth noting that the committee supervising the elections for the presidency of the Wafd Party continues its work.
On Saturday, January 3, the committee received two candidates throughout the day: Dr. Hani Sary El-Din, Vice President of the Wafd Party, and former Wafdist Representative Counselor Eid Heikal. No candidates presented themselves yesterday, Sunday.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Abdul-Sanad Yamamah, head of the delegation, had issued a decision to form the committee bearing No. 50 and 54 of 2025, and the decision issued on December 30, 2025 stipulated the re-formation of a new committee that would undertake full supervision of all procedures related to the elections for the head of the Wafd Party, scheduled to be held on Friday, January 30, 2026.
In its new formation, the committee included Deputy Counselor Tariq Abdel Aziz, member of the Supreme Council, as rapporteur, and MP Dr. Khaled Qandil, Vice President of the Wafd Party, and Representative Dr. Amal Ramzy, member of the Supreme Council, Hatem Raslan, member of the Executive Office, Major General Ahmed Al-Shahed, Chairman of the Party’s National Defense and Security Committee, and journalist Hamada Bakr, member of the Board of Directors of Al-Wafd newspaper and member of the Supreme Council.
The formation also included Ayman Mohamed Sayed, Financial Director, Ahmed Ezzat, Administrative Director, Ali Hassan, Director of Membership Affairs, and Ahmed Abdullah, Deputy Director of Membership Affairs.
