The Department of General Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University celebrated its first annual day, in an event considered the first of its kind, affirming the department’s status and its pivotal role in the system of medical education and health service, and in appreciation of the giving of its professors and successive generations of its members.
During his speech, Dr. Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, expressed his pride and pride in the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and his deep affiliation to this ancient medical edifice, stressing his special pride in the Department of General Internal Medicine and its pioneering role in supporting the health system.
Developing medical education, supporting scientific research, and improving health services is a priority
He pointed out that the mission of the College of Medicine is not limited to academic education only, but extends to serving the nation by providing distinguished medical services, stressing that this national role imposes the necessity of supporting the college and its various departments and appreciating their ongoing efforts.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zein Al-Abidin, President of Ain Shams University, confirmed that the Department of General Internal Medicine is one of the basic pillars of the university’s medical education and health service system, praising the scientific and medical role that the department plays in preparing distinguished medical cadres that combine scientific competence, clinical experience and humanitarian commitment.
The university president explained that achieving institutional excellence depends on the integration of roles, team work, and communication between generations, in addition to the continuous development of academic, research and medical performance, and keeping pace with the latest global scientific developments.
He stressed that Ain Shams University places developing medical education, supporting scientific research, and improving health services at its top priorities, based on its strategic vision and its national role in supporting the health system and achieving sustainable development goals.
In turn, Dr. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the College of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, expressed his pride in the department’s pioneering professors, stressing that honoring them and appreciating their giving is a duty towards those who founded and built this ancient medical edifice.
He explained that the Departments of General Surgery and General Internal Medicine represent the two wings of the Medical Institution at Ain Shams University, and through them the various currently existing specialized departments were launched, stressing that the Department of General Internal Medicine will remain a single entity that includes integrated specialized units that cannot be separated.
He pointed out the work to support the department with a number of accredited specialized certificates, which contributes to qualifying doctors for the external labor market and enhancing their professional competitiveness.
Dr. Tariq Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, confirmed that the General Internal Medicine Department represents an integrated system that includes a number of specialized medical units, operating according to the highest standards to provide advanced health services.
He explained that the hematology unit was developed to raise its operational efficiency, in addition to continuing work on developing the (5 internal medicine) unit and the basic internal care unit, which is reflected in improving the level of medical services provided to patients within university hospitals.
In the same context, Dr. Tariq Mohamed Youssef, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Postgraduate Studies and Research, confirmed that the Internal Medicine Department and General Hospital represent a source of pride for Ain Shams University, because of the pivotal role they provide in the fields of education, training, scientific research, and medical services.
He pointed to the prominent national role of Al Batinah General Hospital during the Corona pandemic, explaining that the hospital witnessed comprehensive development with support from the state, which included infrastructure and operational systems.
He added that the Department of General Internal Medicine will remain one integrated entity under the name “General Internal Medicine,” with the availability of subspecialties at the doctoral level, in a way that enhances the strength of the specialization and keeps pace with modern scientific development.
