Radwan explained that the ongoing development work includes raising the efficiency and modernizing 10-kilometre-long lines, in addition to moving forward with the implementation of the high-speed electric train network project with a total length of up to 2,000 kilometers with double tracks, which is considered one of the largest modern transportation projects in the region, and aims to create a qualitative shift in sustainable mass transportation, enhance connectivity between the various governorates of the Republic, and support the movement of trade and urban and industrial development, in line with the state’s vision to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.

He pointed out, during his participation in the Egyptian-Japanese Dialogue Forum, that these projects represent an essential pillar in building advanced infrastructure that supports the national economy and improves the quality of life of citizens.

Launching of the Egyptian-Japanese Forum to enhance the quality of infrastructure

In this context, the activities of the first session of the Egyptian-Japanese Dialogue Forum on Infrastructure Quality were launched in Cairo, which was organized by the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council in cooperation with the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and the Japan-Africa Foundation for Infrastructure Quality, in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador to Cairo, Fumio Iwai, and the Japanese Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kenichi Kawamura, along with a number of senior officials from the Egyptian and Japanese sides.

The forum witnessed the participation of about 70 Japanese businessmen, representing members of the business delegation accompanying the official delegation, in addition to representatives of Japanese companies operating in Egypt, in the presence of approximately 150 participants from both sides.

Engineer Ibrahim El-Arabi, Chairman of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council, confirmed that the forum reflects the growing international confidence in the renaissance witnessed by Egyptian infrastructure, noting that the Japanese side reviewed the latest technological advances in the fields of transportation, reconstruction, urban development, water management, and environmental preservation.

JICA also reviewed its activities in supporting infrastructure and transportation projects in Egypt, while the maritime transport sector and the Suez Canal Economic Zone presented a comprehensive presentation on the available investment opportunities, especially in the fields of ports and maritime transport.

The presentations also included success stories from a number of major Egyptian companies working in the field of infrastructure, including: Elsewedy Electric, Orascom Construction, Arab Contractors, Hassan Allam Holding, and Redcon Construction, in addition to a presentation by the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company about the latest infrastructure technologies used in the New Administrative Capital and the investment opportunities available in it.

The forum activities concluded with a field tour by Engineer Wagdy Radwan, accompanied by the Japanese Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and his accompanying delegation, which included an inspection of the first and third lines of the Cairo metro, and a visit to the Upper Egypt train station in the Bashtil area.

For his part, Kenichi Kawamura expressed his admiration for the level of quality and advanced technology he witnessed at the Upper Egypt Railway Station, praising the construction renaissance witnessed by the system. He also expressed his happiness with the experience of riding the Cairo Metro during rush hour, stressing the regularity of movement and the quality of operation.

He expressed his aspiration to visit Cairo again for the independence of the fourth line of the Greater Cairo Metro, which is being implemented with Japanese cooperation and technology, stressing the importance of continuing communication to support the prospects for Egyptian-Japanese cooperation in the fields of infrastructure and transportation.
