The Scottish club Celtic decided, today, Monday, to dismiss Frenchman Wilfried Nancy, the coach of the first team, from his position, after losing to Rangers by three goals to one, which left the two teams equal on points.
The 48-year-old French coach, who took over from interim coach Martin O’Neill last month, achieved only two victories in eight matches in all competitions, and the team under his leadership did not succeed in keeping a clean sheet.
Celtic ranks second in the Scottish Premier League with 38 points from 20 matches, six points behind leaders Hearts.
The club said in a statement: “Celtic Football Club announces that the contract of coach Wilfried Nancy has been terminated with immediate effect. Wilfried’s assistants, Kwame Ampadu, Jules Goguen and Maxime Chalet, will also leave the club, taking with them our good wishes. The club can also confirm that Paul Tisdale has left his position as Head of Football Operations.”
Brendan Rodgers, who led Celtic to win four league titles in two spells, resigned from his position last October after a series of poor results.
Peter Lowell also resigned as club president last month, blaming increasing abuse and threats which he described as becoming “unbearable”.
