US President Donald Trump on Monday revealed the launch of a new class of warships that will bear his name, an unusual step for a sitting president.
New American warship
The US President confirmed during a press conference from his residence in Mar-a-Lago in Florida that this ship will be the largest warship in the country’s history, and the largest warship ever built in the history of the world.
Trump estimated that building the first two ships would take about two and a half years, stressing that this new class of ships would include 10 ships soon, and eventually, 20 to 25 ships.
He explained that these ships will be equipped with cannons and lasers, and that they are capable of carrying hypersonic and nuclear weapons, explaining that he wants to personally participate in the design of the new ships because he is a person who focuses a lot on aesthetics, as he put it.
He pointed out that this new class of ships was designed as a message to everyone, not just China, saying: We have a very good relationship with China, which has strengthened and modernized its naval fleet.
Trump stressed, saying: The new warships will achieve military superiority for us in many regions… and we will work to increase the number of aircraft carriers.
