A British surgeon revealed a simple, scientifically supported method that may help curb food consumption Meals Unconsciously light food, especially among people who resort to eating out of boredom or stress rather than true hunger, is a common habit that may lead to consuming excess calories throughout the day.
Sudden bouts of hunger
According to what was published by the Hindustan Times newspaper, Dr. Karan Rajan, a surgeon based in the United Kingdom and a famous health content maker, explained that many sudden bouts of hunger are not the result of the body’s need for energy, but rather are related to psychological pressure, boredom, or getting used to eating, stressing that willpower alone is often not enough to overcome this behavior.
Rajan pointed out that drinking sparkling water can be an effective tool to reduce indiscriminate eating, pointing out that appetite is a complex biological process regulated by the brain through signals coming from the intestines, the vagus nerve, and stomach stretch receptors, and not just a psychological feeling of hunger.
Satiety signals to the brain
The British surgeon explained that the carbonation present in sparkling water causes a slight expansion of the stomach, which activates mechanoreceptors that send satiety signals to the brain, which contributes to calming the desire to eat, in addition to reducing the secretion of the hunger hormone “ghrelin” and stimulating satiety hormones such as GLP-1 and PYY, which slow down stomach emptying.
However, Dr. Rajan stressed that sparkling water is not a direct way to lose weight or burn fat, stressing that calories remain the deciding factor, but he described it as an aid that gives a person a moment of pause to make a more conscious nutritional decision, before a fleeting desire to eat turns into a repetitive daily behavior.
