From a quiet apartment in Agouza to the dock inside the halls of justice, Sarah Khalifa stood before the New Cairo Criminal Court, in a case whose details go back to October 2021, and related to accusations of detaining her driver with the help of others inside her residence, assaulting him, assaulting him, and photographing him without his consent, before the incident came back to light years after it was closed.
The case of Sarah Khalifa being accused of indecent assault on her driver
The beginning of the story dates back to the middle of 2025, when the security services arrested the accused, Sarah Khalifa, after she was involved in a case of bringing and manufacturing narcotic substances in the First Settlement. At that time, the accused underwent several investigation sessions, and during the examination of her phone as a procedure related to the investigation session, a video clip was found that included an assault on another, revealing another crime that the accused had committed with the help of 2 others and at the instigation of a third, in detaining her driver, assaulting him, assaulting him, and photographing him naked. This is in October of 2021.
According to what was stated in the investigation papers, there was a dispute between the accused and the victim, who was working as a driver at the time, and the dispute gradually developed until it ended in him being summoned to the apartment where the incident occurred, where the victim says that he was surprised by the presence of others inside the residence, before he was detained inside a room, assaulted and beaten, and documented what happened by filming him in situations that the accusation considered obscene, while threatening to publish the clips if he informed the competent authorities.
As stated in the case papers, the report was not submitted directly after the incident, but was filed years later, following the emergence of information related to another judicial file that was linked to the arrest of Sarah Khalifa in the major drug case, which prompted the authorities to reopen the case, examine the data, summon the parties, and analyze the content of the seized phones and devices, in addition to reviewing the victim’s medical reports, to confirm what happened and determine the extent of the violations.
With the completion of the investigations, the Public Prosecution decided to refer Sarah Khalifa and the three defendants to the Criminal Court, accusing them of committing the crimes of detention, assault, indecent assault, and photographing without the victim’s consent.
The court began examining the case in successive sessions, as the last two sessions of the case witnessed continuous requests from the defense to postpone the case despite the different reasons between them. One of them asked to postpone it to review and read it, and another requested postponement due to its connection to other sessions in a more complex case, which is the “major drug case” in which the accused are Sarah Khalifa and Fathi Al-Abyad, who are accused in the case of assaulting the driver and 26 other defendants, which prompted the court to postpone it to the next April 7 session to hear the arguments of the Public Prosecution and the defense.
