US President Donald Trump said he will direct the Pentagon and other government agencies to begin the process of identifying and publishing government documents related to aliens and UFOs.
Trump’s statement comes in the wake of former President Barack Obama’s statement, in which he said: “There are aliens, but I have not seen them.”
Trump had previously said that Obama “should not have released this classified information. I don’t know if it’s true or not, I can assure you that he leaked classified information. He made a huge mistake.”
Obama made his statement during an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen last weekend, where he directly answered a question about the existence of aliens, saying: “Yes, they are real, but I have not seen them.”
Following the uproar that arose, Obama clarified on his Instagram account that he was speaking in a hypothetical context, noting that the expansion of the universe makes the possibility of the existence of life outside Earth statistically possible, but the vast distances between solar systems make the possibility of extraterrestrials visiting Earth small. He stressed that during his presidency he had not seen any evidence of contact with extraterrestrials.
The exchanged statements revived the controversy over the issue of unidentified flying objects and extraterrestrial life, a topic that arouses widespread interest inside and outside the United States.
