The incident occurred inside the family home in the town of Duncannon, Perry County, where the child was charged with murder, after he was suspected of shooting his father, Douglas Dietz, 42, in the early hours of the morning on January 13.
According to WGAL News 8, the child’s mother, Jillian Dietz, found her husband dead in his bed, after she woke up to a loud sound and felt a strange smell inside the bedroom, and police confirmed that the father had been shot in the head.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the child entered a state of extreme anger after his father asked him to sleep and took the Nintendo Switch from him.
According to the affidavit, the child believed the device was hidden inside the gun safe, found the key, and extracted a firearm before heading to his parents’ room.
Following the incident, the child informed his mother of what had happened, and later stated to the police, saying: I killed my father, indicating during interrogation that he was angry and did not think about the consequences of what he had done.
Media reports, including KOMO News, added that the child was suffering from a visible bruise on his face and a minor cut on his lip at the time of the accident, while authorities indicated that the child had been adopted by the family in 2018, and that he had spent a quiet holiday holiday with his parents before the incident.
A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for January 22, pending the outcome of the investigations and the completion of legal procedures.
