A recent scientific study has shown that practicing meditation changes brain activity quickly and noticeably, so that the benefits begin to appear within a few minutes. These positive changes that enhance mental and physical health reach their peak at the seventh minute, making it an effective tool available to everyone to get rid of daily stress and anxiety.

Rapid changes in the brain thanks to the practice of meditation

According to Medical

A new study published in a prestigious scientific journal reported that the first changes in brain waves begin after only about 2 to 3 minutes, and reach their maximum peak at about 7 minutes.

Tracking neural activity and the effect of meditation practice on volunteers

Previous research has revealed where brain activity changes occur, such as the frontal and parietal regions, and which brain waves are involved, but one of the most important unknowns was how quickly these positive changes would begin.

Researchers led by a team from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences recorded real-time neural activity in 3 groups of volunteers to solve this scientific puzzle. These people were practicing a specific technique based on meditation and breathing monitoring. The groups included people with no previous experience, beginners trained in the technique, and highly experienced practitioners. Each person wore a hat equipped with 128 sensors that recorded electrical activity in the brain with complete accuracy while they sat quietly.

Rapid brain response and strength of nerve waves

The precise results showed that the brain changes had a similar beginning for everyone, and at the same time, on the other hand, the strength of the brain waves differed completely based on the level of experience, and the brain usually begins to change its electrical patterns within only 2 to 3 minutes, moving from daily deviations towards a state of relaxed alertness. Alpha and theta waves associated with calmness and concentration rise, while delta waves associated with sleepiness decrease significantly.

For advanced practitioners, the distinct brainwave signature was already evident at 30 seconds, indicating that they responded differently from the start of their meditation practice. Meanwhile, the strongest brainwave changes occurred at the 7- to 10-minute mark of initiation.

Quick solutions to enhance psychological and mental health

According to Medical

Research suggests that even if you live a busy, stressful life, it only takes a few minutes to start seeing measurable brain changes. Practicing meditation for as little as 7 minutes is an effective and accessible solution to improving everyone’s mental well-being.
