Afghan media reported a new wave of attacks launched from within Afghan territory towards Pakistani sites on the border between the two countries, in a new security development that reflects continuing tensions in the region.
According to reports, the attacks targeted border sites inside Pakistan, without an immediate official statement clarifying the exact extent of the losses or the responsible party.
Pakistan welcomes any Russian mediation efforts
In a related context, the Pakistani ambassador to Russia, Faisal Niaz Tirmidhi, said that Pakistan welcomes any possible Russian mediation efforts in the conflict with Afghanistan, stressing that his country does not want escalation.
He added in response to a journalist’s question: Yes, of course Russia has always been a friend of Pakistan, and has good relations with the Taliban, and we always welcome all mediation efforts. Pakistan does not want war.
Tirmidhi confirmed that Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will address the issue of the conflict with Afghanistan during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, adding: This issue will certainly be raised. Afghanistan is one of the most important topics to be discussed between the two parties.
