She announced British police Peter Mandelson, Britain’s former ambassador to Washington, was released on bail after his arrest yesterday on suspicion of abuse of power and leaking sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein.
Mandelson, 72 years old, held the position at the end of 2024 before his dismissal in September 2025 due to his relationship with Epstein, the billionaire convicted of sex crimes, amid an investigation that also includes former Prince Andrew, brother of the King of Britain.
The matter sparked a crisis in the Labor Party, with the head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Morgan McSweeney, resigning, and Keir Starmer’s government vowing to publish the relevant documents.
Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III, was arrested on February 18 by Thames Valley District Police in Norfolk, on suspicion of “abuse of public office” while serving as a British trade envoy (2001-2011).
King Charles has allowed police to access secret documents from Andrew’s former palace after millions of pages of Epstein files were released from the US Department of Justice, revealing that sensitive government information was shared with Jeffrey Epstein despite his sex conviction.
He was released after 11 hours of interrogation, with a search of his home on February 19. Charles expressed his “deep concern” stressing that “the law is taking its course,” in the first historic arrest of a prominent member of the modern royal family, amid consideration of excluding him from the line of succession.
