Today, the moon is observed in the first quarter phase of the month of Jumada al-Akhira, where it appears in… sky The Arab world has completed a quarter of its orbit around the Earth during this lunar month.

A distinctive astronomical phenomenon decorates the skies of the Arab world today

The Astronomical Society in Jeddah confirmed that the moment of the first quarter will occur at 06:58 AM GMT, indicating that the moon will then rise from the northeastern horizon in the afternoon according to each country’s local time, and then reach its highest point in the sky after sunset, tilting toward the southern side.

The association explained that the first quarter phase is an ideal opportunity to observe and photograph the surface of the moon, as half of its disk is illuminated while the other half remains in shadow, which allows a clear view of the details of its surface, such as craters and mountains extending along the line separating light and shadow.

She pointed out that observing the lunar terrain requires the use of binoculars or small telescopes, as the strong contrast between the areas of light and shadow helps to show surface features clearly similar to three-dimensional vision, so the sharp edges of craters and geographical features appear more distinct.

The association recommended using a telescope with an aperture ranging from 4 to 6 inches to obtain the best viewing, noting that the use of optical filters contributes to enhancing contrast and showing fine details more clearly.

As the moon continues to move in its orbit over the coming days, the angular distance between it and the sun in the dome of the sky will increase, gradually advancing toward the full moon phase, where it will begin to rise at sunset instead of appearing in the afternoon.
