
The Council of Ministers approved the draft decision of the President of the Republic regarding the grant agreement “Establishing green energy infrastructure in the Suez Canal” between the government of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the government of South Korea, amounting to approximately $4.3 million, within the framework of strengthening Egyptian-Korean relations to support visions and projects of transforming the Suez Canal into a green transformation and preserving the environment, by transforming it into a sustainable and environmentally effective waterway by 2030.
The project includes establishing the infrastructure for a liquefied natural gas fueling station, as well as establishing the infrastructure for an liquefied natural gas training center, as well as developing the Suez Canal Authority’s strategy for long-term, low-carbon development. This contributes to increasing the demand for LNG through the operation of LNG-powered car ferries, while ensuring the stable operation of the LNG Training Center and conducting education and training using the equipment.
The Council of Ministers approved the draft decision of the President of the Republic regarding hosting the Arab Republic of Egypt. The Twenty-Fourth Conference of the Contracting Parties for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Zone of the Mediterranean Sea from Pollution, and its Protocol (Barcelona Convention).
This comes in light of Egypt assuming the presidency of the twenty-fourth session of the Convention of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment and the Coastal Zone of the Mediterranean Sea from Pollution, which includes 22 countries, for two consecutive years, succeeding the State of Slovenia.
The agreement represents great importance at the national level because of its strategic dimensions, especially with regard to maritime transport issues in the Mediterranean. Egypt’s hosting of this session represents an addition of great importance on the political level, reflecting its active role in this file internationally and regionally, and also allows for the advancement of its national priorities during the work of the next session.
