Pin announced that its Pin Pulse smart ring is available for pre-order at a discounted price via the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, with its price starting at about $249, with shipping costs added. Deliveries are scheduled to begin next August.

However, it should be noted that crowdfunding campaigns involve significant financial risks, as the final product may not reach users as advertised. Therefore, those interested are advised to think carefully before supporting such campaigns, especially with the uncertainty surrounding the actual performance of the device.

The company claims that the Pin Pulse ring is the first smart ring capable of providing non-invasive metabolic indicators, in addition to tracking blood sugar level trends.

The ring relies on optical sensors supported by artificial intelligence to analyze precise physical signals, with the aim of giving indications of possible high glucose levels. However, the company stresses that the device is not an approved medical device.

Because of this, some experts express some reservation about these claims, especially since the diagnosis of pre-diabetes or diabetes can be easily and inexpensively done through traditional blood tests by doctors.

The same applies to measuring blood pressure, where the ring relies on indirect estimates rather than accurate measurement. It also claims to provide an assessment of the likelihood of developing sleep apnea. In contrast, the device is expected to be able to actually measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation level.

The ring also contains a motion sensor to track physical activity and number of steps, while its structure is made of titanium. The company indicates that the battery may last up to seven days of use on a single charge.
