New reports showed that Nintendo, despite the success of its new device and its sales exceeding its internal expectations, the PS5 continues to prove its strength in European markets.
A report from Push Square based on The Game Business revealed that PS5 sales topped Switch 2 in the United Kingdom, a trend repeated in several European countries where Sony’s platform remains the most popular device.
The month of October witnessed remarkable activity in the hardware market, as Switch 2 sales increased by 22% compared to September, with a total of approximately 140,000 devices sold in Britain.
However, the PS5 recorded a stronger performance with a 36% increase during the same period. According to The Game Business, the PS5 is still the best-selling device in the United Kingdom during 2025, despite a decline in its level compared to October 2024. Although the Switch 2 was launched in June, its performance remains strong, but Sony has recently begun to regain its momentum against Nintendo.

In Spain, the PS5 finished several consecutive months ahead of the Switch 2, even though the device has been on the market since 2020, which means that the base of new buyers has become smaller. However, PlayStation’s popularity continues to rise in Europe five years after release.
Sales were also affected by the launch of new games, with the success of Ghost of Yotei helping to boost PS5 performance, while sales of Battlefield 6 (not available on Switch) beat European expectations.
In contrast, third-party games on Switch 2 are still unable to match the power of Nintendo’s exclusive games. Although Pokémon Legends: ZA will be released in mid-October, the company is preparing for a busy holiday period with releases such as Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
In order to limit Nintendo’s lead in the holiday season, Sony announced price cuts on the PS5. It launched a lower-priced model for Japan, while Britain, Europe and the United States took seasonal discounts to address criticism of high prices.
