Samsung announced its success in testing a pivotal technology that is considered one of the basic pillars of future 6G networks. The company’s activities are not only limited to manufacturing smartphones, but it is also involved in research and development of communications network equipment.

In this context, Samsung cooperated with KT Corporation to conduct a test on the advanced antenna technology eXtreme MIMO, known as X-MIMO, in the 7 GHz band.

The company achieved a maximum download speed of 3 gigabits per second, relying on an ultra-dense antenna system that includes a number of antennas four times greater than previous generations, without increasing the actual size of the equipment.

X-MIMO technology is a key element in the development of 6G networks, as the 7 GHz band is seen as a balanced option that combines broad connectivity with adequate coverage, while remaining within the millimeter wave band.

During the tests, the researchers transmitted eight simultaneous data packets from the base station to a user device, taking advantage of KT’s experience in simulating real outdoor network conditions.

Although there is still a long way to go before commercial adoption of 6G networks, these results confirm that Samsung is moving steadily towards consolidating its position as one of the most prominent pioneers in developing the next generation of communications networks.
