A user on Reddit shared what appears to be a modem malfunction on his iPhone Air. The new modem developed by Apple, called C1X, was launched in September last year with the iPhone Air.
Apple introduced the C1 modem with the iPhone 16e early last year. This was a new direction for the company as it moved away from using Qualcomm modems. The new 5G modem is supposed to be more power efficient but lacks support for 5G millimeter wave speeds. Then later in the year, Apple launched the updated C1X which it claimed offered 50 percent faster mobile data and 30 percent lower power consumption. Now the first case of C1X modem failure has been reported.
The issue was shared on the iPhone community, where the user posted a few screenshots of the error message that the iPhone Air with C1X modem was displaying. The user reported that he woke up to find that there was no cellular network at all, and when checking the network settings, he was presented with an iPhone-related issue in the mobile diagnostics setting. This was followed by a message stating that a mobile service issue had been detected with the option to contact Apple Support.

In the comments, the user added that he tried restarting his device, trying a different SIM card, and resetting network settings, but none of that worked. At the moment, it is unclear whether the user will be able to take the device to Apple and get either a replacement device, or a fix for the problem.
This appears to be the first case of a C1X modem malfunctioning, and hopefully not the first of many. Commentators suggest that Apple will likely repair the modem since the iPhone 17 series is easier to repair than previous generations. We hope that the user can get a quick solution to his problem.
