Huawei announced the launch of the new MatePad Edge, which is designed as a complete alternative to laptops, inspired by the Microsoft Surface model but comes with higher performance and a more flexible design. The device features an elegant design made of a unibody aluminum body, with a thickness of 6.85 mm and a light weight of only 789 grams, which makes it easy to carry despite the large screen. It comes with a built-in hinge that tilts up to 175 degrees, allowing the angle to be adjusted depending on use, whether you are writing, drawing, or watching a video. The main OLED screen is 14.2 inches in size and has a resolution of 3,120 x 2,080 pixels, with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 120 Hz refresh rate for smooth browsing, and a brightness of up to 1,000 nits for good visibility under the sun. The device is available in two elegant colors: Space Gray and Moonlight Silver, with support for the Huawei M-Pencil Pro stylus for precise writing and drawing.
In terms of performance, the MatePad Edge is based on the new Kirin X90 or To combat the heat during heavy use, it comes with an optional liquid cooling system and dual vapor chambers, plus a six-speaker, four-microphone audio system for clear sound in meetings or entertainment. The rear camera is dual: a 50-megapixel main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera, with a 32-megapixel front camera for high-quality video recording. The large 12,900 mAh battery supports 140W fast charging, so the device can last all day, with one USB 3.1 Gen 1 port for quick connection.
For laptop use, an optional keyboard with 1.8mm chiclet buttons for comfortable typing and a pressure-sensitive touchpad can be added. As for the MateBook Fold Extraordinary Master Edition, it is a luxurious update to the foldable laptop. It comes in two colors, black and red, with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB SSD storage, and an 18-inch screen that folds to 13 inches. It is priced at 26,999 Chinese yuan (about 3,800 US dollars), and is now available through VMall.
As for MatePad Edge prices in China, the base version (16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage) starts at 5,999 Chinese yuan (about 844 US dollars), and the top version (32 GB RAM + 2 TB) reaches 12,999 yuan (about 1,830 dollars), with immediate availability through the VMall store. This device reflects Huawei’s strategy of providing versatile solutions, especially in the high-performance tablet market, but it may remain limited to China due to international restrictions until now.
