
Whether you want to save a video of what appears on your Mac screen, share what you are looking at with friends, or record an educational video, MacOS offers a built-in feature that you can use to record what is happening in your entire screen or in a specific part of it.
Note: You can record a video of your screen through the QuickTime Player app for all versions of Mac OS up to Mojave, but in newer versions there is a separate app called Screenshot that allows you to do so.
Explain how to record screen on a Mac?
First: In Mojave or Catalina operating system:
Press the Command + Shift + 5 buttons on your keyboard to open the Screenshot application. A control bar will appear at the bottom of the screen, which you can use to take still screenshots or record a video of what is happening on the screen. Click on (Options) to customize your options, such as: turning on the microphone, activating the timer, and choosing where to save the recording. To record the entire screen, click the button that appears as a square with a circle in the corner. To record part of the screen button (which appears as a dotted square with a circle in the corner). Once you press it, part of the screen will be selected and you will see dotted lines indicating what you will record. You can change the size of this window or move it to record what is happening in a specific area of the screen. When you’re ready, click on the Record option, and if you’re recording your entire screen, you can click anywhere on the screen to start recording.
To stop recording, you can either press the stop button at the top right corner in the menu bar or press the Command+Control+Esc buttons on your keyboard.
Second: How to record the screen using the QuickTime Player application:
If you’re using macOS Mojave or earlier, you can use the QuickTime Player app to record your screen. To do this, follow these steps: Open the QuickTime Player app. Click on the File option at the top of the list, or you can right-click on the application icon in Duck, and choose New Screen Recording.
A pop-up window called (Screen Recording) will appear. Click on the arrow next to the recording button to customize recording options, such as: choosing to record sound from the computer’s external microphone, or showing mouse clicks. Click on the register button that appears in red.
To record the entire screen, tap anywhere on the screen. To record part of the screen, click on the screen, then drag the cursor to create a window, then click on the Start Recording button in the middle of that window. To stop recording, click the Stop button in the menu bar at the top, or press the Command+Control+Esc keys on your keyboard. Once stopped, the app will open the video you recorded for viewing and editing.
