Honor revealed yesterday in China the Magic8 Pro Air and Magic8 RSR Porsche Edition phones, and alongside them it also announced the Watch GS 5 smart watch, which comes as a direct successor to the Watch GS 3.

The company provided the new watch with a 1.32-inch circular AMOLED screen with a brightness of up to 1500 nits, with a 44 mm body made of aluminum alloy, while reinforced polymer fibers were used on the back to increase durability.

The watch came with a light weight of 26 grams and a thickness of only 9.9 mm, with one side button, in addition to obtaining the IP68 water and dust resistance standard and supporting water resistance up to 5ATM. Honor also makes it possible to pair it with a black or khaki leather bracelet.

Honor confirmed that the Watch GS 5 is the first smart watch on the market to support sudden cardiac arrest screening research, in addition to providing a comprehensive assessment of cardiovascular disease risks. The company added that its research team can conduct telephone follow-ups for users classified as high-risk categories.

The watch provides early alerts for conditions such as atrial fibrillation, sleep apnea, and irregular heartbeat, while supporting round-the-clock health monitoring that includes measuring blood oxygen, stress levels, sleep quality, HRV, and heart rate.

Honor has adopted a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 495 mAh, which provides up to 23 days of use without activating the always-on display (AOD), and about 9 days with it activated.

The watch supports Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC technologies, five satellite positioning systems, and also includes a microphone and speaker for making calls via Bluetooth. In addition, it provides 4 GB of internal storage space, and is compatible with Android 6.0 or later and iOS 9.0 or later phones.

Honor has begun opening pre-booking for the watch in China, with sales officially starting on January 23 at a price of 699 Chinese yuan (about $100).
