Google intends to add a new way to display participants in Meet video conferencing service meetings aimed at the business and education sectors, similar to what is provided by the Zoom service, according to what Reuters quoted a company official as saying.
The General Manager of Google and Vice President of the G Suite service, Javier Soltero, told the agency in an interview: Google will allow Meet users to receive calls directly from the email service (Gmail).
The additions come amid significant growth in the Met service, with families, students, and workers increasingly using the service while at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Reuters, the upcoming view will allow users to display up to 16 meeting participants in a single frame. Soltero said: This feature will be available later this month. Although the feature is similar to what Zoom provides, the latter excels in that it allows displaying thumbnails of up to 49 people on one screen.
The new (Mate) integration with the (Gmail) service appears as if it will allow (Mate) users to initiate or answer a call directly from their (Gmail) window, similar to what is available between (Gmail) and (Hangouts) – the consumer-focused chat service. Google will begin offering this feature to G Suite customers starting today on the web and on mobile at a later time, according to what Google told The Verge.
Google told The Verge in a statement: “With more people working and learning from home, we want to make it easier for you to communicate and keep things moving forward.” She added: “With Meet in Gmail, you can easily start or join a meeting in seconds. Our goal is to help you follow the flow of the day, and seamlessly switch between email and video meetings – whatever form of communication you need.”
According to Reuters, Google will enhance the capabilities of the (Mate) application by improving video quality when lighting conditions are dim, and filtering background noise while making a call. These features will also be added later this month. Google said last week that the (Meet) service had more than 2 million daily users.
According to Reuters, the (Meet) application has been able to increase the number of daily users more than any other Google service since last January. It is noteworthy that on Thursday, Google expanded free access to some of the advanced features of (Mate) until next September 30, after that free access was scheduled to end on next July 1.
