Russia has officially banned Apple’s FaceTime video calling service and Snap-owned Snapchat, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

This decision comes as the Russian authorities continue to expand the list of platforms blocked within the country, which already includes Facebook, Instagram, and X.

The Russian authorities claimed in the report that FaceTime and Snapchat were used to “organize and carry out terrorist acts” and to recruit individuals to participate in these activities, in addition to linking them to other criminal activities such as fraud.

In a previous step, Russia warned the WhatsApp application of the possibility of being completely banned on the grounds that it violates local laws. The country continues to tighten censorship on social media platforms since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
