FiiO has expanded its range of R2R-enabled devices with the launch of a new driver, the M33 R2R, which fills the gap below the flagship M27 model.

The R2R technology relies on a fine-grained network of resistors rather than traditional DAC chips, which audiophiles appreciate as delivering a more natural, clearer, and more detailed analog experience compared to modern delta-sigma converters.

The M33 has a 24-bit full-difference R2R resistor network, delivering rich, natural sound. To ensure strong sound while maintaining its quality, FiiO equipped the device with a multi-stage amplifier from TI that provides a power of up to 1100 milliwatts per channel, making it suitable for sensitive earphones as well as large speakers that require high power.

The M33 relies on powerful technology to ensure smooth performance. The Snapdragon 680 processor combines with 8GB RAM and Android 13, ensuring that streaming apps run without stuttering. It also offers 128GB of internal storage that is expandable via microSD card, with an XMOS XU316 chip and a DAPS system to reduce vibrations and noise.

The device comes with a 5.5-inch HD screen, and allows audiophiles to precisely adjust the sound via a 10-band audio equalizer, including Auto EQ support.

The battery life is up to 14 hours, easily enough for daily use. The device is priced at around $600/£449, making it a suitable option for those looking for an authentic R2R experience without paying the high prices.

FiiO also plans to launch a FiiO Retro Box speaker in the first quarter of 2026, which can be used with the M33 as an audio source, with a digital cassette tape displayed on the screen.
