GF Securities analyst Jeff Poe revealed in a new research note five major upgrades that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are poised to receive later this year.

First, Apple will reduce the size of Dynamic Island by moving the Flood Illuminator sensor for Face ID below the screen, allowing for a larger viewing area and a smoother experience.

In addition, the 48-megapixel main camera will have a variable aperture, which gives the user greater flexibility in controlling the amount of light and depth of field while photographing.

At the chipset level, the series will rely on the A20 Pro processor manufactured with TSMC’s first generation 2nm technology, with a new packaging design that is expected to enhance efficiency and performance.

Apple will also introduce the new N2 chip, which will succeed the N1 chip responsible for supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread technology in the previous generation. Although the improvements are not yet clear, they will likely provide better wireless performance and greater power efficiency.

Finally, Apple will integrate the C2 modem into the Pro and Pro Max phones, in an important step after the C1 modem was previously limited to the iPhone 16e and the C1X was limited to the iPhone Air. With the C2, Apple’s internal modems will finally move into the flagship professional category.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max next September alongside the iPhone Fold, while the iPhone 18 may arrive with the iPhone 18e next spring.
