Reports emerged in November indicating that Google was developing a feature similar to the NameDrop feature found on Apple devices, but for Android phones.
The NameDrop feature, which appeared in 2023, allows files or contact information to be shared by simply bringing two iPhones closer together. In its version, Google seems to focus specifically on sharing contact information.
The attached video shows how the Google feature will work in reality, as it displays the mechanism of interaction between the two devices. However, the name of the feature is still undecided, as during development Google uses the name Gesture Exchange and sometimes Contact Exchange, and it may adopt one of them commercially, but it is expected that it will choose a more attractive name at launch.
The feature is still under development and is not yet fully ready. The evidence is that the animation is working in the beta version, while the contact exchange itself is not yet activated. Expectations indicate that it will be launched sometime during 2026.
When activated later, the user may have to move the device slightly to align the location of the NFC antenna between the two phones, especially since the iPhone antennas are always at the top while their locations in Android phones differ greatly.
