Hussein Abu Saddam, head of the Farmers Syndicate, confirmed that tomatoes will be sold for 10 and 15 pounds during the coming period, and that he believes that this price is suitable for the consumer, so that the farmer can achieve a profit margin.
The head of the Farmers Syndicate added, during television statements, that during the last period the farmer suffered losses due to the tomato crop, but if the price is raised, it will be to achieve a profit margin for the farmer.
He pointed out that commodity prices are determined by supply and demand, calling on citizens not to buy any commodity whose price is higher than normal, because the intermediary links between the farmer and the consumer cause prices to rise more than required.
He pointed out that he calls on the government to obtain products from the farmer and sell them directly to citizens to ease the burdens on citizens, and for there to be support for the farmer in agricultural supplies.
He explained that an acre of tomatoes costs the farmer 100 thousand pounds, and in the event of a loss, the farmer reduces the areas planted with tomatoes and grows other agricultural products to achieve a gain.
He continued: “The new increase in tomato prices will occur after 20 days or a month, and will continue until Eid al-Fitr.”
